Do Leonardo da Vinci's works depict syndactyl or synpolydactyl hands?  Here is some compelling evidence...

Leonardo da Vinci, nearly 500 years after his death, is once again in the limelight. Perhaps more is unknown than known about this great artist. Scholarship varies and with it, old stereotypes wax and wane. Approaching his works with a fresh view requires an open mind and a willingness to accept the transparent. During the process some revelations will be obvious, while others may be controversial. A most fortuitous revisit of his hand studies has led to the conclusion that both the weary hand sketch and the left hand of Christ in The Last Supper are examples of syndactyl or synpolydactyl hands.

Leonardo da Vinci, a quasi 500 anni dalla morte, è ancora una volta sotto le luci della ribalta. Probabilmente su questo grande artista è più quello che non si conosce che ciò che si conosce.Il sapere varia e insieme ad esso vecchi stereotipi appaiono e scompaiono. L’approccio alle sue opere, con uno spirito d’osservazione nuovo, richiede una mente aperta ed una disponibilità ad accettare quel che risulta chiaro ed evidente. Durante tale processo, alcune rivelazioni saranno ovvie, mentre altre potranno apparire controverse.Un riesame più fortuito dei suoi studi sulla mano ha portato alla conclusione che il disegno della mano stanca e la mano sinistra di Cristo ne L’Ultima Cena sono entrambi esempi di mani affette da malformazioni, quali le sindattilie e le polidattilie.

L’Ultima Cena rappresenta Cristo mentre consuma l’ultimo pasto con i suoi apostoli prima della crocifissione. Cristo rivela agli apostoli che uno di loro lo tradirà e che da lì a poco egli sarebbe stato dato in sacrificio per l’umanità. Quasi tutti sono dell’opinione che le emozioni rappresentate nel dipinto siano quelle di rinnegamento (Apostoli) e di dolore (Cristo).

Why would Leonardo da Vinci paint Jesus Christ with an anomalous Left Hand?

The Last Supper depicts Christ's final dinner with his apostles prior to his crucifixion. Christ lets the apostles know that one of them will betray him and that he would be sacrificed. Most feel that the emotions shown are those of denial (Apostles) and sorrow (Christ).
